Dragon Baiting and A Double Trap
Kalithuul closed her eyes for a
moment to feel the cool wind
whip past as she flew over the dark forest; she smelled the new spring
pines as
they began to grow again. Her light green scales were glinting silver
in the
red twilight sun, as she scanned the ground for some sign of movement.
The animals had all gone into
hiding since her arrival though
that wouldn’t have hindered most green dragons. Kalithuul
missed the comforts
of her childhood nest only 3 months gone and she felt like she was
already starving
to death. Her mother had always managed to get enough food for all of
them, a
feat which Kalithuul did not fully appreciate until the first time she
went hungry,
of course it was hardly the first time any more.
There, in a meadow ahead a deer
was hobbling, to injure to
get to cover in time. Kalithuul grinned down, and came to hover just
above the
deer who let out a bay of fright, as she crashed down on him. Something
was
wrong, there was no crunching of bones, no cry of pain,
or any squirming of her prey. She looked down
at the deer that still stood her leg going through his undamaged body.
An illusion a trap was all she
had time to think before the
first arrows hit. Dozens of them pelted her armored wings, most
breaking or
glancing off harmlessly but some found their way into her tough sinewy
flesh.
She let out a roar of rage and
pain as she tried to lift
into the air, but her wings felt heavy and would not obey her commands.
Poison,
she looked to her right to see an elf darting through the tree tops
like a squirrel,
as it lepta between branches it fired an arrow that found its mark
right up the
dragons soft nose.
Kalithuul roared with fear more
then anger as she lashed out
with the poison of her breath, but to no avail, the elves had already
moved
away from her head, she felt their arrows digging in between the scales
of her
large hind legs, even more clearly she felt the blood now as it coursed
out of
her body, with each heart beat she felt her self weaken, as she began
to cry
the salt of her tears stung her eyes and mixed with the blood pouring
from her
nose. Kalithuul gave a lerch as she tried to run but her back legs
buckled,
sending her crashing into the trees.
She could hear one of the elves
mocking her, as he moved
through the trees for a better shot at her neck, telling her how dragon
tasted,
she raised her head, to strike just one, that’s all she asked
at least on
little piece of retribution.
But she could not see him
through her tears, but she saw his
arrow glide towards her eye just in time to blink, her lid blocked the
arrow,
but more found their way into the base of her neck.
She felt herself fading from
the world, and then there was a
blast of heat as a group of trees burst into flames. Another Blast
closer to
Kalithuul seemed to pull her from the haze, just enough to see a tall
figure
dressed in gold and orange floating through the trees, a flash a light
cut out
from his hand cutting down a pair of fleeing elves.
The man came to land beside
Kalithuul, who stared at him
curiously, even through the pain, and weakness of her blood lose she
could
still feel the tightness of her stomach from fear at his presence. He
smiled at
her and with a flick of his wrist her pain was gone.
The shock of what happened
could barely register before he
threw another shock at her. You owe me your life, and are now my
servant.
Kalithuul scuffed even through
her fear for dragons served
no one.
He grinned, to disobey is to
come to the same condition you
where in before I found, and to die shortly thereafter.
With another flick of his hand
she felt the blood come poring
out of her nose again and she roared in pain. Then he stopped it.
Kalithuul glared at her new
master, the hatred building
inside her, “you made the deer.” It
wasn’t a question
Yes, I knew the elves would see
it, and set a trap for you,
so I set a trap for well all of you. They where my enemies and you
played your
part as bait rather well, his voice was soothing, calm, yet
disturbingly
arrogant even to a dragons ears.
So I can go then? Although she
asked it Kalithuul already
knew the answer.
No, he smiled, no, in weak as
you may be now in 5000 years
time when I am ready to conquer the world you will be truly strong.
5000 years time, I cannot
serve, but he cut her off
Oh
but you can and
longer still, it takes time to build the armies to put the steps into
motion
that will make the whole of the world my servant. To start this you
need to
take on servants of your own, become the leader of a tribe of orcs, or
some
such lesser race.
I have no need- again he cut
her off Kalithuul was starting
to get annoyed with this creature.
But I do, he grinned at her,
you see if I save thousands of
dragons and each in turn has thousands of lesser servants, my army will
be
unstoppable.
