d20 Modern Firearms-Alternate Rules The d20 Modern rules regarding firearms and weapons where designed to be simple rather then realistic, to allow a game to flow on equal footing, however in many cases neither of these are the desired outcomes. In such cases the following alternative rules suggestions can help. Machine Guns have an Area of effect. Rather then just being a one shot or a three shot (with the proper feat) item Machine Guns will actually shoot multiple bullits. For every 5 bullits per second they act as a cone having a 50% chance to make an attack on a target in a 5 foot area. For each extra bullit add 2% chance and for every 5 feet wider the spray area is made cut the chance in half. d20 Modern Weapons with Greater Critical Range Currently the critical range for firearms in the d20 modern system is very low, it could be increased to allow fire arms to do much more damage. On a roll of 20 the fire arm does 5 times normal damage on a roll of 19 the fire arm does 4 times normal damage on a roll of 18 the fire arm does 3 times normal damage on a roll of 17 the fire arm does double normal damage This system may obviously be adjusted based on your desires. d20 Modern Firearms can kill one shot You could make it so that on a roll of 20 the fire arm killed its target outright d20 Modern Firearms Knock back an opponent All fire arms have stopping power, a force with which they push on and knock back, stunning opponents The Goal is to avoid getting shot Major Characters have the goal of avoiding getting hit, just like the most skilled soldiers avoid getting hit rather then taking huge amounts of punishment. The character rolls a saving throw based on reflex to avoid getting hit. Or they use they roll a hide check to avoid getting hit, in this case the hiding in combat doesnt' mean that they are unseen it means that they are avoiding being seen. Hiding in Plain Site or in the open with no concelment offers a -12 to their hiding check, and they cannot hide in plain site closer then 40 feet. Quality and accuracy different guns have differing levels of accuracy depending on the maker, guns like the SKS made by China for example have a reputation for inacuracy and so should receive a -4 to their to hit rolls. Other guns like many of the .223s have a repuation for accuracy and so could get a +3 to their to hit rolls. |
