The Setup
Cochan is a tiny groove wedged near the heart of one of the
largest plains in the known world. Surrounded by large empires and city
states
for two centuries it has been sheltered from the dangers of the world,
allowing
it to become a truly quite and sleepy little region. Its people are
friendly,
willing to share and hard working. They love travelers who bring tales
from
outside and distant lands, which in truth they have little desire to
see.
Safe but for a few ghost
stories and the occasional coyote
that steals their chickens they have forgotten how harsh a world filled
with
darker creatures and perhaps darker men can be.
That is until now, a war between two empires to the south
has driven many creatures that once resided in the wild plains and a
dark
tangled woodlands north. While most of these creatures passed by Cochan
to find
refuge in the lands to the north, many have found the farms, cellars,
and the
small wooded areas along the valleys river a welcome change to the once
harsh
lives they led. Even worse then these however are the soldiers from the
war who
have deserted and traveled north becoming bandits and thieves, they
have found
Cochan an easy target for their activities. While most of the soldiers that deserted
where low level and
barely trained soldiers, the people of Cochan haven’t fought
a war in over 200
years and so are little prepared to battle these forces.
There are two ways the adventurers can enter this quest,
either they currently residing in the land of Cochan
, where they likely helped to deliver goods to the city states as
security or
some other semi military task. In this case this would likely be their
first
adventure.
More probably they will have come from some outside area,
poor adventurers, just starting out they are willing to take what
humble jobs
they can, for the humble pay that the people of Cochan can provide.
Hooks, A
merchant who has done a lot of business with Cochan
in the past to get its crops for resale in the surrounding lands, and
is upset
by its recent problems. This merchant would hire the PC’s to
go see what they
can do to help.
The Mayor of Deer Run sends an
emissary to find a small adventuring
band, one that the city can afford.
Rumors of the now easily
accessible fairies and other
magical creatures, useable in potions and other such items entices a
wizard in
the party to come.
As a Knight or Priest of some
god of the country the PC’s
are obligated to go and do what they can for the region.
The Region of Cochan

Cochan is made up of three
villages
Deer Run, Sunso Ti, and Granger.
Each of these villages is independent, run by a mayor and
the adults of the village, who vote on larger decisions. On occasion
the
villages will work together on something, or will arrange a dance
together, in
which case their mayors, or representatives from them will meet. Such
arrangements are based entirely on concessions.
